SUMMARY

Miaka Yuki and Yui Hongo enter, by accident, in a book of the library called the Writings of the Four Gods. Miaka becomes priestess of Suzaku, whereas Yui becomes the priestess of the other camp: Seiryu.

Both must find their stars; i.e. seven people designated to protect them thanks to special powers. Each priestess will be able then to call upon their respective god and carry out three wishes.

REVIEW

Fushigi Yuugi is a mix between shojo and shonen. Believe my experiment, boys appreciate this series as much as the girls! The love triangle between Miaka, Tamahome and Hotohori (two stars of Suzaku) please the girls; whereas the combat between stars, orchestrated particularly well, hang the boys definitively. Even me, I must add!

The strong point of this anime is, without any doubt, the characters. Each star has a personality so much well defined that you have an impression of knowing them. One then puts oneself to make comparisons with people around us! Each person finds a preferred character even if that must be the terrible Nakago, malicious extremely hated.

The original plans of Nakago form a positive aspect of this anime. The Suzaku-Seiryu opposition is very rich and gives many splendid scenes. The episodes always finish in drama, afterwhat it is absolutely necessary to continue to the next episode to calm itself! If you want to take pauses, I recommend to do it in the middle of the episodes!

However, it should not be believed that Fushigi Yuugi is only one tragic story. Certain moments are, adding a little realism, but all the episodes are filled with many jokes, particularly when Tasuki (a star of Suzaku) makes his appearance!

Review made with the English dubbed version.
